Koforidua gets Nine fire tenders

The Eastern Regional Fire Service Commander, Assistant Chief Fire Officer(ACFO) Edward K. Ashong, has said the Region spent GH ?1.3 billion on 231 fire outbreaks for the first half of this year.wpid-wpid-GhanaNationalFireServiceGNFSlogo.jpg

He said the Service responded to 63 emergency cases on the roads throughout the region during that same period.

ACFO Ashong said this at the commissioning of nine fire tenders at Koforidua.

He said many of the fire stations lacked fire tenders and appliances while those stations that had fire tenders and appliances, the equipments are old and weak and in effective in fighting fire now.

The Regional Commander called on all stakeholders to help use pragmatic measures to fight the outbreak of fires to help the country save the money used in fighting the fires.

Mr Antwi-Boasiako Sekyere, the Eastern Regional Minister, said the government would ensure that the Fire Service was well equipped to ensure that they worked with commitment and effectiveness.

He said it was important for the Fire Service to upgrade their skills on fire prevention and educate the public to help reduce fire outbreaks.

Mr Antwi-Boasiako called for the establishment of fire volunteers to support the Fire Service.
