Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Asokwa in the Ashanti Region, Maxwell Kofi Jumah, says the country is so awash with corruption that the waters covering the sea pales in contrast with it.

According to him, the level of corruption in the country is so gargantuan that Ghana is well ahead of some advanced countries like the United States of America on the corruption scale.

?If Ghana?s corruption is to be a vessel, even the sea waters cannot fill all the vessels. Ghana is a very?very?very corrupt country. Though America is also corrupt, Ghana in terms of corruption is far ahead of the Americans. This is very sad for Ghana,? he said.

He was speaking in relation to the alleged corrupt practices contained in the draft Ghana Youth Employment and Entrepreneurship Agency (GYEEDA) Report.

Kofi Jumah, who was speaking on Adom FM, commended the committee set up to investigate alleged corruption in the activities of GYEEDA.

To him, for a committee, whose membership was drawn from government to investigate corrupt practices in that same administration is not easy and therefore must be lauded irrespective of the fact that another committee has been set up the review the report.

?Those who were tasked and gathered the courage to investigate the alleged GYEEDA financial malfeasance must be commended. Elvis Afriyie Ankrah (Sports Minister) and his Co-committee members must be commended because it?s not easy,? he said.

To ascertain the veracity of media claims of massive corruption at GYEEDA, formerly known as National Youth Employment Programme, NYEP, the Mahama-led administration set up a 5 member committee to investigate the allegations.

Members of the committee which included Mr. Ferdinard Gunn, the Chairman, Mr. Edward Amuzu Tuinese, Committee Secretary, Mr Randolf Nsor-Mbala, Mr. Kwami Edem Senanu and Mr. Mike K. Gabbah from the Public Services Commission after grace period of 2 months submitted their report to the President, John Mahama.

The outspoken former MP pointed out that the idea of creating jobs for the youth via the GYEEDA initiative is brilliant but disbursing of funds for the program by individuals and companies must be avoided.

He further stated that ?the GYEEDA report is a scratch on the surface and there is more to it.?
