KNUST to insist on quality from affiliated universities

Authorities of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) have vowed to play its supervisory role effectively to ensure that academic programmes of institutions affiliated to it, meet the expected standards.

Professor William Otoo Ellis, the Vice-Chancellor, said they would not compromise on quality adding that they would be strict on admission processes, examination and academic programmes of those universities.

He said as they did this, the KNUST would share experiences, research work and provide the needed technical support to strengthen them.

Prof Ellis said this when speaking at the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Bunso-based University College of Agriculture and Environment Studies, at the Council Chamber in Kumasi.

He signed the agreement for the KNUST, while Professor Kwame Serbeh-Yiadom, the acting Rector, initialled for the College.

Under the Understanding, the KNUST would appoint moderators to moderate the academic programmes of the College and an auditing team to audit its examination questions and the marking and additionally, it would supervise its matriculation and congregation ceremonies.

Prof Ellis said he was confident that the management of the College would abide by the terms of reference as spelt out in the agreement to help achieve their objectives.

Prof Serbeh-Yiadom gave the assurance that they would live up to the spirit and letter of the MoU.
