Asante Kotoko hande their first defeat in the second round of the season

Asante Kotoko were handed their first defeat in the second half of the First Capital Plus Premier League by King Faisal in the big Kumasi derby on Wednesday.

The champions came into the game full of confidence having won all their games in the second half of the season but surrendered to a late strike by Wilson Andoh.

Faisal were however the quickest off the block with a fine opportunity to take the lead after just eight minutes.

But striker Sulley Mohammed was adjudged to have handled the ball in his attempt to control to spurn the opportunity.

Kotoko however responded with a chance of their own in the 14th minute but Seidu Bancey blasted wide ? much to the disbelief of the few fans gathered.

Kotoko coach Mas-Ud Dramani was forced into making his first change in the 25th minute after Eric Donkor suffered a knock.

He was replaced by experienced Stephen Oduro with Joseph Ochaya moving to the left-back position.

Oduro came close to opening the deadlock in the 32nd minute but he failed to connect to the inch-perfect cross from Prince Baffoe as the game went into recess goalless.

Kotoko looked increasingly the side to break the deadlock in the second half but they were finding it extremely difficult to break down the staunch Faisal defence.

The champions dominated play but were unable to find the elusive opener as coach Mas-Ud Dramani patrolled all over his technical area in frustration.

Faisal went into defensive mode as the game gradually grinned but Andoh popped up to capitalize on a defensive error to snatch the winner with 30 seconds of play left.
