Addressing journalists after paying a courtesy call to Tatitown Customary Court (a traditional court) in Francistown situated 430 km north of the country’s capital Gaborone, Kimani said Kenyans are inspired by how Botswana has managed her beef since gaining independence in September 1966.
According to Kimani, Botswana beef is envy to many countries even those in the first world.
Before the worst Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD) outbreak early 2011, Botswana was one of the few net exporters of beef to the lucrative European Union (EU) market.
Currently the Botswana government and its partners are working hard to regain the lucrative EU market.
But the EU shunning has not stopped countries on the African continent from drooling at the beef. Countries like Zimbabwe and Zambia, which are situated in the northern part of this diamond rich nation together with Angola in the far north, have been importing beef and live cattle from Botswana.
And Kenya is in next on the radar because of the interest generate by beef eating population of the east African nation.
“We have been knocking on doors every time. We love eating your meat. We are trying to make sure that during my tenure that we get more Botswana meat to Kenya,” said Kimani.? Enditem
