ELDERS AND leaders of the Gbi and the Zongo community in the Hohoe municipality have been urged to advise their women to shut their mouths.

Apparently, women from the two factions involved in the Hohoe crisis are said to have developed the penchant for exchanging derogatory remarks.

Hohoe Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Dr. Margaret Quarcoo who made the appeal noted that such uncalled for behavior could spark further disturbances in the area.

She said efforts by the men and leaders of the two factions to restore peace and consolidate it would be meaningless since ?your women are rather doing the opposite with their utterances.?

She was speaking at the swearing in and inauguration of a committee to investigate the crisis.

According to her, the assembly has had many reports of inflammatory and untoward statements by women of the two factions which threatened the peace and stability the municipality was striving for.

She said ?while we are all working for peace and trying to bring everybody together, your women are making inciting statements to provoke and inflame passions. Please talk to your women to watch their words and shut their mouths concerning these issues.?

The only female MCE in the region who lamented that she had lost 10 pounds since the disturbances began added: ?please tell your women to spare me all the confusion and dangerous words.?

She however commended leaders of the two groups for showing a high level of maturity, cooperation and commitment towards peace and stability.

She also commended and thanked the various security agencies for their assistance as well as government for their constant support and guidance in the matter.

The Overlord of Gbi Traditional Area, Togbega Gabusu in his short remarks, reiterated that the conflict which erupted in the area was not a religious one as some media personnel, individuals and groups seemed to be purporting.

?The conflict here is not between Muslims and Christians but between the people of Gbi and the Zongo community in Hohoe. We know there were some Christians living in the Zongo who partook in the ordeal and so it is not about Muslims but the Zongo community.?

He also prayed government to facilitate the swift lifting of the curfew in the area.

Volta Regional Minister, Henry Ford Kamel assured Togbega Gabusu that the President and government had taken his plea in good faith and were making the necessary consultations to arrive at a the best solution.

He however emphasized that the curfew was in the best interest of the people of Hohoe and its environs and that until it was lifted residents should adhere to it and cooperate with the security agencies and other stakeholders.
