The Northern Region journalists who were involved in an accident in Bole in the Northern Region on Tuesday had been transferred to the Tamale Teaching Hospital, where six of them who sustained injuries had been treated and discharged, while Yakubu Abdul Majeed, Ghanaian Times, remained on admission due to a fractured arm.

IMG_3256.JPG15697Mr Caesar Abagali, Northern Regional Chairman of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) after visiting the victims, said Albert Futukpor of the Ghana News Agency, Alima Bawa of Bishara radio, Ibrahim Mohammed of Zaa radio and Suwera Yakubu, National Service person with the Daily Graphic and Salifu Adam, TV3 cameraman, were discharged on Wednesday morning.

He said the victims arrived from Bole around midnight and doctors at the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH) attended to them saying, ?I have been with all of them and apart from Yakubu Abdul Majeed who had a fractured arm and Albert Futukpor who had a deep cut in the head and bruises in the ear, the rest have no very serious injuries?.

Mr Abagali said he had spoken to the doctors who assured that all of them had been treated including Majeed who had to remain on admission because of the fracture and that Albert Futukpor had been advised to come back for his head injury to be stitched.

?I was not happy when the accident occurred and some of the media persons who felt they were not injured had to still follow the minister for the programme at Banda Nkwanta, instead of staying back to sympathize with their injured colleagues?, Mr Abagali said.

Mr Abagali, however, commended Abdul Karim Nantogmah, Citi fm?s Northern Regional correspondent for withdrawing from the minister?s entourage to stay with his injured colleagues at the Bole hospital even though he was part of the accident.

?I have to single out Nantogmah for declining to join the minister?s trip to Banda Nkwanta after the accident. I was the first person he called to inform of the accident and he had been with them up till Wednesday morning and I think that is the mark of a concerned citizen?, he said.

?My sympathies go to all the affected journalists and their families, especially Majeed who had a fractured arm. I know it is very painful and sad to leave your family behind to attend to a national call only to end up in the hospital?, he added.

The 10 media practitioners were involved in an accident on Tuesday afternoon when they were following Mr Ayariga, Minister of the Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation to Banda Nkwanta in the Bole district for an official duty.
