Reverend Monsignor Anthony Kornu, Chairman of the Volta Regional Peace Council, has urged journalists reporting on conflicts to choose words with utter circumspection to avoid being misunderstood.

JournalistsHe said journalists must be careful about categorisation of parties in conflicts.

Rev Monsignor Kornu was speaking at a workshop on Conflict Reporting for selected journalists in the Volta Region on Friday in Ho.

The National Peace Council (NPC) organised the workshop in collaboration with IBIS-Ghana, a Danish International NGO.

Rev Monsignor Kornu said it was easy for journalists to make slips by bunching up a whole community in a conflict situation when only a few people might be involved.

George Amoh, Director of Conflict Resolution Management, NPC, took participants through causes of conflicts in societies, communities and nations.

He said resource ownership and sharing and structural differentials and inequalities in living standards among people were major causes of conflict.

Mr Amoh said there were more intra-nation conflicts than inter-nation conflicts currently.

He regretted that no African country was among the world?s first 20 most peaceful countries.

Participants broke into groups to discuss various sticky situations they had reported, lessons learnt and mistakes committed.
