sanusi-may-withdraw-suit-against-jonathanPresident Goodluck Jonathan and the emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammad Sanusi II, have buried the hatchet ? even if for only one evening. On Wednesday evening, Sanusi ? who was suspended by Jonathan as governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) over his controversial letter ? honoured a presidential invitation for the traditional breaking of fast during Ramadan. Other northern traditional rulers, led by the sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa?ad Abubakar III, attended the event.

It was the first time Jonathan was meeting Sanusi after his appointment as emir in June. Sanusi led a special prayer for peace during the very brief event and Jonathan shook hands with all the traditional rulers thereafter. Abubakar condemned the bomb blasts in Kaduna earlier in the day, saying the perpetrators and sponsors of violence ?have no Islamic agenda?. A major highlight of the event was the sultan?s proposal for a meeting between the president and traditional rulers to discuss national issues ? a request that was approved by Jonathan on the spot. Jonathan asked the traditional rulers to help the government in the fight against terrorism. Copyright 2014 The Cable.
