Ghana’s defender John Boye reclaimed his starting berth in the Stade Rennes team and played the entire regulation minutes when they sneaked past French Ligue 1 champions elect Paris Saint-Germain 2-1 on Thursday evening.

The 27-year-old center-back was unused as he warmed the bench in the 2-0 shipwreck against Guingamp in the Coupe de France final but he returned to action on Thursday night and lasted the entire duration totally marking out Edson Cavani, Javier Pastore and Zlatan Ibrahimovic at the Parc des Princes.

Boye?s resilience in defence was instrumental for Rennes as they handed PSG their first home defeat of the season as he twice denied Ezekiel Lavezzi.

The champions got off to a flying start when Ezequiel Lavezzi banged home his eighth of the season as early as the third minute, but Foued Kadir (23′) and Paul-Georges Ntep (27′) struck back to put a dampener on PSG?s party and give the inconsistent Brittany side a six-point lead over 17th-placed Sochaux with two matches left to play.

The win has lifted Rennes to 13th place on the log and moved them completely away from the relegation zone.
