John Boye: Black Stars players should be blamed for not taking their chances

Ghana defender John Boye has admitted the team’s poor conversion rate denied them a place at the 2012 Africa Nations Cup final.

The Black Stars, touted as one of the favourites to win this year’s competition, were shocked 1-0 by Zambia at the Estadio de Bata courtesy of a goal by Emmanuel Mayuka with 12 minutes left on the clock.

The team wasted many scoring chances including a first half penalty miss by striker Asamoah Gyan.

Boye, who has been a revelation at the tournament, insists the team should be blamed for their exit.

“We played well and it’s a shame we failed to qualify to the finals but the truth of the matter is that we didn’t take our chances,” the Rennes centre-back said.

“And in games like this if you fail to take chances, you can be punished and that what happened to us.

“They took the chance that came their way and that is it.”
