The National Youth Coordinator, Hon Ras Mubarak has charged the youth to take up courses that will fetch them jobs when they are out of school.

According to him, the growth and development of the nation depend on how well equipped the youth are to take up job opportunities and be managers of their own destinies.

Hon Ras Mubarak gave the advise at a Seminar organised by the Javsalynn Foundation on education.
He averred that, the impact of youth unemployment on our any country can be so profound that, the energies of young people may be misdirected towards crime and violence, saying that “is a dangerous recipe of a melting pot of social tension.”

“When young people are unemployed, it means that they may not contribute enough to state pension schemes, and so will have low retirement incomes when they eventually reach pension age,” he said.

Hon Ras Mubarak also indicated that one of the hindrances, to having more young people moving into work is recruitment practices, stressing that the of flexibility at the point of entry into the labour market and lack of flexibility at exit stage is leading employers to shy away from employing new persons.

He suggested that there must be strategic interventions to attract the youth to the agriculture sector whilst they must also take advantage of courses that will not make them irrelevant but relevant to the work field.

“We believe that young people should also be able to follow their dreams onto the labour market after finishing their studies. However, the economic crisis has hit the young more than any other age group.”

Competition for jobs, he said, has changed from being local and national, to being global and that young people are not competing with others from their hometown anymore, but with anybody from any town, from anywhere.

“The world has moved along with the times. Access to the best study programmes are available to those whose education, only a decade ago, was not really developed.

The biggest change is that jobs in large organizations and the public sector are decreasing. And our education system does not encourage young people to create their own job opportunities,” he noted.

On his part, the Director of the Javsalynn Foundation, Gideon Aryeequaye noted that the advancement of Ghana and other developing nations depend on the acquisition of tertiary education by the youth and that youth development at the tertiary level where the youth acquires the knowledge and skills which can make them resourceful is key.

He charged the youth to strive to achieve excellence at the tertiary level of their education.
He noted that, Javsalynn Foundation has over the years, observed the failures of the BECE and the SHS certificate examinations and the seeming loss of the nation’s resources, and is convinced that it can turn the fortunes of these candidates around.

“Looking at the overwhelming number of these candidates with whom we are concerned, the Javsalynn Foundation is of the opinion that they have the talent, that their failure must have been due to certain unfavourable circumstances and that we could prepare them to cope with modernity,” he said.

According to Gideon Aryeequaye, the numerous students have qualities which could otherwise make them succeed in life, hence Javsalynn’s efforts.

He revealed that Javsalynn Foundation is more than willing to place over two hundred thousand candidates including 2014 WAEC victims in overseas tertiary institutions in 2015 so as to make them resourceful.

He charged the youth to take advantage of the opportunities Javsalynn is offering in order to better their lives.
