ANSA news agency said the helicopter had a “mechanical fault” and its pilot preferred to land immediately in order to avoid further problems amid bad weather conditions.
The emergency landing reportedly took place in a sports field near Arezzo, a city in the central Italian region of Tuscany not far from Florence.
None of the people travelling with Renzi were injured, according to government sources, ANSA reported.
After the helicopter landed safely, Renzi continued his trip to the Italian capital by car, ANSA added. Enditem
