Authorities at the?Hospital have begun investigations into a fire incident that occurred at one of its five laboratory consumables stores on Wednesday.

The fire, which was suspected to have been caused by electrical fault, burned some of the items at the store including malaria diagnostic tests, pregnancy diagnostic tests and hepatitis diagnostic tests.

Dr Prosper Akanbong, Chief Executive Officer of TTH told newsmen that immediately the fire was detected, the circuit breaker automatically tripped off making it easy for personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) to quickly douse the flames to save the rest of the facilities in the store.

Dr Akanbong said the hospital administration is taking stock of the damage but said the disaster was not severe to affect operations.

Alhaji Limuna Mohammed-Muniru, Northern Regional Minister, who was also at the scene, urged the hospital authorities to quicken efforts to establish a fire service station at the facility to deal with such situations.

Government in December last year supplied the TTH with a fire tender but the hospital is yet to set up a place for personnel from the GNFS to man the facility.
