The National Imam of Ahlussunnah Wal-Jama?a, Sheikh Umar Ibrahim Imam, has condemned the alleged sexual abuse of children by their teacher as reported by DAILY GUIDE a couple of days ago.

He described as worrying the rising spate of immorality among so-called men and women of God.

His reaction was contained in a press release in which he called on parents to be sensitive to the conduct of those they entrusted their children to.

He accordingly called on the authorities to deal with the suspect who has now been arrested to face the full rigours of the law when found guilty. This way, he went, on others would be deterred from following similar path.

The Imam charged the Islamic leadership to be mindful about the welfare of the vulnerable such as children and women.

Immorality among clerics he observed cut across all religions and had become an international subject.

?This is a manifestation of the signs of the end time as prophesized by the Prophet of Islam,? he added.

Continuing, he quoted one of the hadiths or sayings of the Prophet of Islam as narrated by one of his disciples Saidina Ali, ?A time will come when in the near future when there will be nothing left of Islam except its name. And there will be nothing of the Quran except its words. Mosques of that age will apparently be full of people but will be empty of guidance.  Their scholars will be worst creatures under the sky. Discord will rise from them and will rise from them and will come right back to them.?

The interpretation of the foregone, he went on, was that the import of the Quran would not be understood and adhered to.

The Ashaiman Mallam, Ibrahim Salley, is being held at the CID Headquarters as investigations into the case continue.

He is alleged to have been sexually abusing pupils in the Islamic school he was running at Valco Flats, Ashaiman.

He further denounced the establishment of night-time Islamic schools in the Zongos and urged community leaders to dissuade such development as they could be breeding grounds for the perpetration of immoral acts.
