Adenta MP, Kojo Adu AsareNational Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for Adenta, Kojo Adu Asare says he will prefer to be a traitor than an enemy of former President Jerry Rawlings.

He stated that the recent comments by Mr. Rawlings smacks of ingratitude to those who sacrificed their lives and time to defend the former first couple through ‘thick and thin’.

Adu Asare was reacting to the latest outburst by former President Rawlings that government and national executive of the NDC have lost the enviable political morality of the party.

Mr. Rawlings said the NDC is now battling with two opponents, the traitor and the perceived enemy – of which he claimed the traitor has made it very difficult for them [Rawlingses] to reclaim the party.

But speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Thursday, Kojo Adu Asare said majority of NDC members who joined the party because of the ideal and values of Mr. Rawlings are disenchanted by the current development.

He noted that the loyalists of Mr. Rawlings who saw him as a mentor and an inspiration are saddened and wonder if the party founder has not deviated from his own probity, accountability and social justice principles.

Drawing an analogy from the Bible, the Adenta MP said Judas would not have betrayed Jesus if the devil – the biggest enemy of Jesus Christ – had not influenced him hence he would prefer to be Mr. Rawlings traitor than an enemy.

Adu Asare observed that the Rawlingses cannot claim ownership of the NDC since according to him the formation of the party was a collective effort.

Incensed by the former president’s critique of government, the Adenta MP said “the former first couple is making it seem like once it is not them everybody is wrong”.

Adu Asare added that the party founder’s continuous critique of the Mills-led administration attest to his [Rawlings] failure to mentor a successor to uphold the principles and values of the party.

“If you [Rawlings] always have to correct and mark people right, then you must admit [that] there is something wrong. You chose to keep all the wisdom and principles to yourself and never bequeath it to any successor”.

“Akuffo was not good, Limann was not good, Kufuor was not, President Mills is not good. No one else but themselves,” he bemoaned.

Kojo Adu Asare said the conduct of Mr. Rawlings and his wife, Nana Konadu will affect the political ambition of their children in future.
