How Rough Is The Road To Flagstaff House?

Yes, Nana has won massively and we knew he was going to win; but for those who intended to cause mischief they were deaf and blind. ?Whilst congratulating Nana I shed no tears for the losers because as our beloved J.H. Mensah said in 2007, the presidential primary is not ?a beauty contest? and those contending should have ?checked themselves? before undertaking a venture, which from all intents and purposes, was unnecessary and a waste of money. ?Alan?s results were shocking but when spokespersons are full of venom and prejudice they do not deliver messages but insults, and should be blamed for the poor performance. ?For those who have qualified to go for the second round, I suggest they pause and reflect on their decision and the Nigerian proverb which says ?it is a stubborn fly that follows the coffin to the grave?.

The peace and tranquillity which the party enjoyed in the past has been badly disturbed in recent times, and the building of unity which was promised by the new Executive has suffered tremendous damage which can only be repaired with the charisma of Nana; but in doing so we must be conscious of some sheep in wolves skins who in the name of party unity, were rewarded with prominent positions in the 2008 campaign team but have now turned out as the bitterest critics of Nana.

Winning the flagbearership does not automatically suggest that Nana will win the 2016 election, but it will be a giant step towards that objective. ?We have major problems such as the NDC rigging machinery, the Electoral Commission and the internal ?enemies? of Nana to deal with. ?The plan to ditch Nana was conceived in three phases; namely, phase one ? to elect favourable executives in Tamale to execute the plans; phase two ? to use the Special Delegates? Congress to eject Nana, and phase three ? should Nana win phase two, prevent him from winning the presidency at all cost. ?The results of 31st August, 2014 suggest that if there are any such plans they should be abandoned because they will not work.

There are some elements within the party who allegedly claim that if it means destroying the party to prevent Nana from winning the presidency, they will do so and later re-build the party. ?The question is, why the hatred for a man who has endeared himself so much to millions of Ghanaians? ?Could he have built such a reputation on falsehood? ?The answer is NO. ?He has been accused of being arrogant, violent, a cocaine dealer and power drunk, yet none of these have stuck; rather they have increased his popularity by bounds. ?He crowned his reputation with the acceptance of the unconvincing Supreme Court verdict and that has turned him into a national hero. ?His popularity was recently confirmed at the NDC?s funeral celebration of the late Mr PV Obeng. The spontaneous reception he received on arrival at the funeral grounds virtually turned the funeral into an ?NPP rally?. ?Obviously the NDC who would have preferred a different NPP candidate instead of Nana for the 2016 elections, have been badly disappointed.

The signals my intelligence is picking suggest that some NPP and NDC ?nouveau riche?, who have suddenly in the recent past become filthy rich through politics, are behind this ?hate? campaign. They envisage the reign of incorruptible Nana as a threat to their riches and businesses which they have acquired by milking mother Ghana through corrupt practices. ?They dread Nana?s reign and subsequent actions which could damage their businesses and the possibility of the reign being prolonged by his deputy, the ?Northern Bright Star?, who cannot be faulted with any of the vices mentioned, especially corruption.

Nana has proved, with the selection of unknown Bawumia for the NPP?s vice presidential slot, that he is a visionary leader. ?At that time there was a lot of criticism from within the party but Nana stood his grounds and the National Council of the party reluctantly gave in. When Nana won the 2012 presidential primary again, the criticism for the selection of the Vice deepened, especially with the loss of the party?s seat in Walewale, where Bawumia hails from, in the 2008 election; but Nana stuck to his guns. Today Bawumia has proved to be a great asset to the NPP and a possible presidential candidate in future, and this is what most detractors can?t swallow.

Yes, the NDC will do everything to win the next election through clean or foul means. ?Many of my friends keep asking me what the NPP is going to do. ?To ask this question suggests that you are a Ghanaian living in space. But if you are a patriot living in Ghana and going through the stress and suffering which have been imposed on us by ?greedy bastards? and a wicked government, the answer is ours. ?President John F. Kennedy of the US in his inauguration speech on 20th January, 1961 stated; ?ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.? ?In other words, ask yourself what you can do to help NPP come to power to save you from this suffering. ?The NDC had succeeded in rigging past elections but they did so with human beings and not ghosts; and knowingly or unknowingly you and I must have contributed to their efforts one way or the other. ?Elections are won or lost at polling stations and every Ghanaian belongs to one polling station or the other. We must therefore be vigilant to prevent the nefarious activities of the NDC wherever we find ourselves during the next elections. ?If Ghanaians want to change this government, it can be done through the collective efforts of majority of Ghanaians including the supporters of the NDC who have been badly let down by their own government, and who are suffering by guaranteeing their votes to the NPP.

As for the Electoral Commissioner, I am not convinced he will initiate any reforms that will ensure free and fair elections in this country if civil society does not pressurise him to do so. But we as Ghanaians can counter his diabolical plans. ?The Peace Council, surprisingly, have kept their silence since the Supreme Court verdict; and have pretended that everything is fine as they wait for the opportunity to preach peace once again. ?They seem to forget that peace cannot be achieved through press conferences. ?Napoleon once said that ?The world suffers a lot not because of the violence of bad people but because of the SILENCE of good people.? In other words, Ghanaians are suffering today because of the SILENCE of the good people of Ghana.

It is worth noting that it took the action of one person to ignite the ?Arab Springs?. ?On 17th December, 2011, the Tunisian revolution was sparked by the self-immolation of Mohamed Bouazizi as a result of his personal frustration over the affairs of his country.? This led to demonstrations and the ousting of President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali, 28 days later on 14th January, 2011. ?The Tunisians? protests inspired similar actions throughout the Arab world including Egypt, Libya, Bahrain, Algeria, Jordan, Morocco, Iraq and Mauritania, in what has become known as the ?Arab Springs?.

Let Ghanaians wake up from their slumber and assert themselves by telling those we have put in government to stop the corruption, the dissipation of our financial resources, the lies, deceit, and above all, the destruction of the moral fibre of our society by massively voting in 2016 for Nana as the NPP has demonstrated in this Special Congress.
