Health NGOs commended for their support in immunization programmes in Ghana

Mr John Frederick Dadzie, Deputy Programmes Manager, Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI), Ghana Health Service (GHS), has stated that non-governmental organizations? involvement in immunization was key to enhancing effective health delivery.

He said NGOs in health had been very supportive in the expansion of immunization programmes to hard to reach parts of the country.

Mr Dadzie stated this at the 4th National Planning Committee meeting by the Ghana Coalition of NGOs in Health in Accra at the weekend.

The meeting was to present updates on activities by member NGOs on various immunization initiatives undertaken in various parts of the country.

Mr Dadzie noted that the Ministry of Health and the GHS alone could not reach every parts of the country to administer vaccines, ?but the interventions and supportive roles of these organisations had proven useful?.

According to him, plans were underway to strengthen the capacity of staff of the various organisations who were working at the hard to reach communities, all in the effort to assist with health service delivery.

Mrs Cecelia Lodonu-Senoo, National Board Vice Chairperson of the Coalition, said the Programme was being funded by Gavi Alliance, a public-private partnership to help save lives and protect people?s health through increase access to immunization.

She indicated that the Coalition had contributed considerably in the expansion of immunization programmes and had supported other health based campaigns, aimed at improving quality health for people.
