MEMBERS OF the Health Accountants Staff Association of Ghana (HASAG) are dissatisfied with the manner in which the Single Spine Pay Policy has been rolled out.

Members of the financial wing of the health sector viewed the current segregation by the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) as discriminatory with specific reference to the salary relativities regarding their grade levels and market premium.

?HASAG will however want to assure stakeholders that the leadership will continue to use dialogue to resolve all outstanding issues on the single spine pay policy,? they stressed.

The association also called on the Ghana Health Service (GHS) to redouble efforts to impress upon the human resource division to expedite action on the scheme of service, staffing norms and guidelines for promotions and upgrading.

These were contained in a communiqu? issued by HASAG members at the end of their 4th Annual Congress held in Takoradi.

The communiqu?, signed by President of the association, Justice Ahorlu and the Secretary, Saeed Hussein Yakubu, expressed concern about the delay in reimbursement of claims from the National Health Insurance Authority to health facilities.

It called on the government to address the issue since the prompt release of claims would enable the GHS to provide quality health care to Ghanaians.

It reiterated the association?s commitment to transparency and accountability in the management of public funds in the health sector.

It noted that together with other stakeholders, HASAG would like to facilitate a supportive and inspiring working environment within which the call for electronic accounting systems would thrive.

?HASAG will therefore like to encourage government and the Ghana Health Service to allocate the needed logistics to support members of the association in the discharge of their duties. This is with the aim of consolidating the gains chalked so far under health financial reforms,? it stressed.

In view of the current challenges regarding resource mobilization, the communiqu? noted that HASAG would continue to play its role as gate keeper and financial advisors to health managers in a bid to improve revenue generation and incurred expenditure in line with approved budgets.
