Developed by the Public Health Agency of Canada, the VSV-Ebov vaccine will be administered to rural populations to prevent its spread to Conakry.
Speaking during the launching ceremony, WHO representative in Guinea Dr. Jean-Marie Dangou said the historic operation was bringing hope to all.
“If we combine the control measures that we have put in place with an effective vaccine, we shall be able to put to an end this sad chapter of our history and start rebuilding our country,” said Dr. Sakoba Keita, the national coordinator for the fight against Ebola in Guinea.
To facilitate the task of vaccination teams, the Guinean government has asked local administrators in the concerned zones to get involved and support vaccination strategies.
Latest statistics from WHO show that Guinea has had 3,023 confirmed Ebola cases, out of which 1,870 have died. Enditem
