The Ghana Rugby Football Union (GRFU) has devised plans to implement a sustainable programme to produce Ghana Eaglets and Eagles to compete at the international level.
rugby9The programme dubbed ?Get into Rugby? is to encourage players of all ages to Try, Play and Stay in Rugby and promote the values of the game in a safe and progressive environment.

The programme is part of the International Rugby Board (IRB) strategy to grow the game globally in partnership with its member regions and unions and nurture talents for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro in 2016.

President of the Union Herbert Mensah said, Ghana could have been a force to reckon with in world Rugby if it was available as an optional sport at the basic level.
He said ?one of the highest priorities and biggest challenges of the GRFU Board is to plan and implement a sustainable programme that will produce the Ghana Eaglets and Eagles of tomorrow at the International front. We will involve discussions with the educational authorities and schools prior to the implementation to ensure sustainability and longevity of the GIR programme?.
The programme will witness children at the initial stage to try Rugby in clubs, schools and local communities in order to learn and experience the values, passion, principles and skills of Rugby with the aid of trained coaches, teachers and leaders.

GRFU president urged corporate Ghana to get involved through sponsorships to build not only awareness for their brands, but to also create an immense goodwill.
