The Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council (GPCC) on Tuesday called for circumspection and tolerance among all religious bodies in their discussions on the merits and demerits of their demand in order not to inflame passion.GPCC

It said anything outside that would disturb the peace and religious tolerance ?we have enjoyed as a nation, which has made us an envy of many nations?.

An official statement signed on behalf of the National Executive Council by Apostle Samuel Yaw Antwi, the General Secretary, said the GPCC has over the last few weeks observed with concern, certain developments within the religious community, particularly the recent demonstration by a section of the Muslim brothers and sisters in the Western Region and its aftermath.

?We are happy that in the exercise of the democratic rights of our brothers and sisters, the demonstration in itself was peaceful,? it added.

The statement said it was also happy that the issue involving the Seventh Day Adventists Church and a group of Muslim youth in Atebubu in the Brong-Ahafo Region, which led to the burning down of the SDA Church, was resolved amicably and appealed to both Christians and Muslims not to use that to foment violence.

It said: “as the National Peace Council (NPC) had taken the initiative by engaging all stakeholders to address the issue, we urge all to remain calm, pray and support the attempts that are being made to maintain the peace we have in our nation?.

?While appealing to Ghanaians to remain tolerant and uphold the virtues that have kept us together first as a people before other considerations, we call on all politicians to steer off clearly this matter and allow the religious community to address this matter without any interference.

?We also appeal to the government to give the NPC all the logistical support needed to handle this important national issue,? it added.
