Over one hundred Youth representatives in three Regions of Ghana have called on the government not to relent in youth development investments to enhance national security.?

This, the youth felt, would be manifested if the government committed itself to the implementation of the National Youth Policy of Ghana.

These observations were made at the third in the series of nationwide Regional Youth Dialogue Forums on the National Youth Policy on the theme: ?Review of youth development in Ghana since the launch of the National Youth Policy consultations for further action? held in Takoradi in the Western Region and organized by the National Youth Authority.

To ensure cross?fertilization of youth, delegates were drawn from the Central and Greater Accra region including Youth?led Agencies and youth wings of the four political parties in Parliament.

In an overview, the Western Regional Director, Mr Emmanuel Papa Assan, the Forums are meant to wilfully involve the youth of the country to input into the fruition of an implementable action plan to make the National Youth Policy a living reality.

In addition, the dialogues serve as a bridge among youth development partners and youth leaders, as well as youth?focused organizations to interface with the National Youth Authority and the government in the anticipation of channelling youth cheerfulness, energy and creativity into the national development agenda, such as the Better Ghana thrust.

Papa Assan told the gathering that the National Youth Authority has designed series of activities including Voluntary Work-camps and Youth Caravan project with the idea of engaging the youth and advised them to move away from violence and trouble spots especially as we approach December 7 for the general election.

You should place yourselves in a way that you would not be swayed by those politicians who are yearning for power desperately, he added.

The delegates discussed the sub-theme of the forum: Economic Empowerment; Governance and Leadership, Human and Technology Development, and Culture, Sports and National orientation which subsumed the nineteen priority areas of the National Youth policy.

The Forum also commended the National Youth Authority in the power to put the National Youth Policy implementation in the centre stage of the national development planning whilst calling for private sector upkeep in complimentary to the government.
