Students currently writing this year?s West African Senior School Certificate Examination are still not being offered the chance to apply to KNUST, UCC, UMAT and other Universities in the country as ?awaiting students? in spite of promises made by the Ministry of Education for arrangements to ensure their consideration for admission this year.

The 2014/2015 admission application instructions of some of Ghana?s most reputable Universities namely Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), University of Cape Coast (UCC) and University of Mines and Technology (UMaT) clearly stipulated that students currently sitting the West African examination were cut out of the process and as such only persons who had previous secondary national examination results could apply and be considered for admission.

The decision by these Universities which generated public outcry saw the Ministry of Education intervening with a promise of engaging the Universities in question to come out with measures favourable to all parties and ensure ?awaiting candidates? also had the opportunity of applying and being considered for admission.

After several months however, 233 Live News can confirm that the situation remains the same with the Universities holding on strongly to their decision not to allow ?awaiting candidates? enter the University this year.

Deputy Registrar of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Mr. Vincent Ankama Lomotey in an interview with 233 Live News stated that government has not engaged the school in any discussion meant to find ways of making the University consider ?awaiting students? for this year?s admissions.

A total of about 242,152 students are currently writing the West African Senior School Certificate Examination with majority hoping to progress to enter the few tertiary institutions across the country.

With the government?s loud silence on the matter, many would have to defer their University applications for next year before they would be considered by their favourite Universities for admission.

Meanwhile the University of Ghana has received tens of thousands of admission applications for the 2014/2015 academic year from candidates including ?awaiting students?.
