The Ghanaian government announced here Thursday new measures to enable the country’s private sector to partner the state in generating more employment for the youth.

In a keynote message to the opening session of the 52nd Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Ghana Employers Association (GEA), Vice-President Paa Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur said that unemployment remains one of the greatest challenges of the country, saying that job creation must be done through a collaborative effort of state and private sector, as working in isolation might not be able to manage the issue effectively.

He urged the employers to uphold the high tenets of good corporate governance in their organizations, together with good corporate social responsibility.

He said that the government will partner with the private sector to train the teeming youth in employable skills so they could gain employment, especially in the Small-Scale Enterprises ( SME) sector, while the more reliable energy is made available and affordable for the use of industry.

During the one-day AGM themed “Democratic Governance and Enterprise Development in Ghana-Achievements, Challenges and Prospects,” Amissah-Arthur also announced the government’s resolve to ensure fiscal prudence for the rest of the year to ensure a stable macro-economic environment.
