The Governor of Anambra State Chief Willie Obiano, has that his administration is poised to embark on massive road construction in the agricultural belts of the state, and also develop more industrial parks across the state to boost economic activity.? The Governor was speaking while inspecting the Amansea-Ebenebe-Obaofemili road and the Ozubulu-Atani road yesterday.

According to him, the Amansea-Ebenebe-Obaofemili road with two bridges under construction would be extended Ayamelum Local Government Area, while the Ozubulu-Atani road which has three bridges under construction would service a proposed industrial layout.

Governor Obiano also explained that providing access roads to the food basket communities in Anambra State is part of his comprehensive strategy to implement the agricultural component of his four Pillars of Development conceptualized to achieve food sufficiency and job creation through expanding agricultural production.

On the other hand, he told the communities around Atani layouts that the provision of infrastructure like roads, power supply, water and effective security is part of the plan to provide an enabling environment for businesses to thrive in Anambra State.

Commending the quality of work done on the sites by the Contractors, the Governor said that the roads are of good quality and are of internationally accepted standards but warned other contractors to brace-up since the State would not condone shoddy jobs. The Governor, while ordering the construction of hand rails on the Ezu Bridge also observed, that ?enhanced transportation in the agricultural areas would encourage the sprouting of agro- allied industries, while free movement in the industrial layouts would decongest traffic in Onitsha and link the Habour layout with the Ozubulu Industrial Layout.?

Governor Obiano promised the communities in Awka North that government would soon set up more Primary health centres in the area to bring health services closer to the people.

Giving their impressions, members of the State House of Assembly from the respective areas present at the road inspection expressed their satisfaction with ongoing work. Whereas Mrs Rebecca Udoji of Awka North was happy that the initial delay caused by the collapse of the old Ezu Bridge had been overcome and assured that her people will support the Governor?s programme for agriculture; Mr Paulinus Onyeka representing Ekwusigo Constituency thanked the Governor for his plans to fast-track industrial growth.

Earlier, the Hon Commissioner for Agriculture, Sir Callistus Ilozumba thanked the communities for their cooperation with the contractors which has helped the progress of work on site. Also on the trail an Inspector roads from the Council of Registered Engineers of Nigeria (COREN) Mr Cyril Anaeto, observed that inspite of the difficult terrain, the Contractor at Amansea road is complying and that they would ensure that quality is not compromised.

On their part, the Contractors handling the road projects assured the Governor that the jobs would be delivered on schedule.
