Gombe State takes delivery of grains for flood victims

Gombe State Government has taken delivery of 18,000 bags of assorted grains from the Federal Government.

Gombe State Commissioner for Agriculture Alhaji Dahiru Buba- Biri says the State Government has taken delivery of 18,000 bags of assorted grains from the Federal Government for distribution to people affected by flood in the state.

Buba-Biri who stated this on Monday added that the grains comprised 10 trailers of millet and 20 trailers of guinea corn. He said they would be distributed to the victims in Dukku, Nafada, Funakaye and Yamaltu/Deba Local Governments, which were worst affected by flooding, while Balanga and Akko Local Governments would also receive some of the items.

The commissioner stated that the state government had earlier assisted the victims with relief materials through the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), adding “While we are distributing grains, we are also going on with production of crops under dry season farming.?

Buba-Biri stated that government planned to spend N250 million in mopping up farm produce next year for storage in its strategic grains reserve to motivate farmers as well as to save for the rainy day
