The Director of the National Sports Authority (NSA) Joe Kpenge, has launched the second edition of the Ghana Golf Awards in Accra.
The initiative aim to reward distinguished golfers and sponsors over the year is billed for December 13, at the Unique Flora Gardens in Accra.
The event is expected to host several dignitaries across the country while over 30 personalities would be rewarded in various categories.
The categories include Amateur Golfer of the Year (Male and Female), Most Improved Golfer of the Year (Male and Female), Most Promising Golfer (Male and Female), Junior Golfer of the Year (Male and Female) and Senior Golfer of the Year (Male and Female).
Launching the event, Kpenge emphasized the need for young people especially, girls to be engaged in the sport with the view that serious golf across the world now operates among the youth.
He commended the Ghana Golf Association (GAA), for the initiative, adding that he would support any event aimed at promoting, organizing and developing sports.
Vice President of the GGA, Mike Aggrey said that, the awards is to give the association the opportunity to disapprove the idea that golf was meant for only the elite and rich in society.
According to him, a program has been drawn up by the association to ensure that the public is encouraged to play golf at the junior level.
He stated ?The Golf association is to ensure that the sport is improved in the country, and also arrest the interest of the press in the sport. We will lift high the flag of Ghana in Rio 2016 through golf?.
