Mrs Patience Gbeze, a Senior Journalist of the Ghana News Agency, has picked the fourth prize in the ?Migrating out of Poverty? Journalist Awards Competition for developing and publishing the best migration story in the media.

Mrs Patience Gbeze, a Senior Journalist at Ghana News AgencyThe Award, instituted last year by the Institute of Migration Studies, University of Ghana at the end of a National Training Workshop for journalists in migration reporting, was to recognise professionalism in the field.

Mrs Gbeze?s article ?The untold story of a Kayaye? was adjudged the fourth prize and she took home a certificate and a cheque for 500 Ghana cedis.

The first prize went to Ms Loretta Vanderpuye from GTV, Ms Jamila Akweley Okertcheri of Daily Guide was second e Maxwell Suuk of Radio Diamond, Tamale, came third. They also had certificates and cheques for GHC 1200, GHC 1000 and GHC 700 respectively.

Mr Daniel Adu Darko of Peace FM and Mr Pius Amihere Eduku of Radio Universe had consolation prizes of GJHC 300 each.

Other contestants, Mr McJoseph Kwame, Rite FM, Anny Osabutey Joy FM and Mr George Badu of GTV also received recognition for participating in the competition.

Profr Mariama Awumbila, Director, Migrating out of Poverty, RPC, Ghana, congratulated the award winners for putting up professionalism in their work.

She said the competition was keenly contested and that clearly showed that the training workshop was successful ha impacted positively.

She pledged her outfit?s preparedness to facilitate activities of the Media Network on Migration (MENOM) , a network of journalists reporting on migration to ensure that the network develops and becomes strong and visible.

Professor Kwame Karikari, Executive Director of Media Foundation for West Africa, said the idea of the training workshop was to get the media to understand migration issues and encourage publishing more of such stories in the media.

He said over the years, the media had been covering migration issues but were not aware they were migration related hence the need to create the awareness.

Ms Vanderpuye, who is also the Liaison Officer of MENOM, on behalf of the award winners thanked the organizers for the honour done them.

?You have given us tools to work with and at the same time award us for our write ups. We pledged to work harder to make our network more visible and strong,? she added.
