Mr. Henry Ekow Manly-Spain, an aspiring Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) has advocated that punitive measures should be put in place to deal severely with persons who are bent on smuggling arms and ammunitions to the troubled spots like Bimbilla, Bawku, Yendi, Nkonya-Alavanyo and other parts of the country where there have been hostilities.

According to him, the continuous carting of arms and ammunitions by unscrupulous group of people or individuals who intended to use the conflicts in the aforementioned areas as the yardstick to achieve their parochial interest posed serious security threat to the country.

Mr. Henry Ekow Manly-Spain, the aspiring Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), made the appeal in an interview with The Moment over the weekend.

Mr. Manly-Spain told the paper that over the years and recently reported cases in the media on the attempts by some persons whether out of their own will or were contracted by someone to transport a large quantity of arms and ammunitions to the Northern part of the country was clear manifestation that the ongoing conflicts have political undertone with the backing from affluent residents from these places who chose to domicile in the southern sector but crate confusion way back home.

He said against the fact that all security agencies deserved praise over their efforts to ensure that the conflicts did not escalate to other parts of the country, there were more to be done to flush out from the system the possession of the unauthorized arms at this crucial moment.

Mr. Manly-Spain who spoke on wide range of national issues expressed dissatisfaction over unnecessary criticism by both members in the ruling government and those in opposition without offering the best alternative to address the problems at stake.

He noted that for the sake of national interest, they need to define the best options they consider prudent to deal with such problems rather than continuous criticisms without any concrete solution to them.

?No matter our political differences we must all share ideas with each other especially in our various fields of endeavours against the fact that we may belong to different political entities with diverse religious background so as to liberalized from the web of poverty? he added.
