Nana Addo, who made the call here at his twitter handle, condemned the violent attacks on African migrants in South Africa?s city of Durban.
?I condemn in the strongest terms these acts of persecution which have so far, according to reports, claimed the lives of at least six people, including a 14-year- old boy.?
He said such attacks should not be condoned, and called on South Africa?s President Zuma to ?do all in his power to ensure that these attacks end?.
While sending his condolences to the bereaved families, Nana Addo further called on Ghana?s President and chair of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), John Dramani Mahama, through Ghana?s High Commission in South Africa, to go to the aid of all Ghanaians who were in need of help.
In a related development, Ghana?s minister of Foreign Affairs, Hannah Serwaah Tetteh has confirmed that one Ghanaian, Emmanuel Quarcoo, had been killed as a result of the attacks.
She said Quarcoo was found dead by the roadside with head injuries.
?The matter is being investigated by the South African police and our embassy is following up on this matter.
?There will be a meeting at the South African Ministry of Foreign Affairs with African ambassadors today to discuss the matter. Our embassy will advise on the need for evacuation of Ghanaian citizens if necessary,? she said.
The recent xenophobic attacks have also been condemned by President Zuma as “shocking”.
“No amount of frustration or anger can justify the attacks on foreign nationals and the looting of their shops,” he told the country?s parliament on Thursday.
Foreign-owned shops in South Africa belonging to Somalis, Ethiopians, Malawians and other African migrants have been attacked and looted overnight in eastern Johannesburg the latest xenophobic attacks. Enditem
