Government has released funds for the payment of allowances to Ghanaian troops on Peace keeping missions.

It follows complaints from Ghanaian troops serving on the United Nations Peace Support Operations over the non-payment of their allowances.

In a statement issued by the Ghana Armed Forces following a durbar at Burma camp in Accra, the Chief of the Defense Staff Vice Admiral Mathew Quashie said there is a new system to check the delays in the payment of the Earn Dollar allowance to Ghanaian Peacekeepers.

He said government is aware of the numerous challenges facing the Armed Forces and has initiated actions to provide the basic needs of the military.

Vice Admiral Quashie announced that the Armed Forces will soon upgrade the level of their equipment in all peacekeeping theatres to meet the standard required by the UN.

There are also plans to boost the strength of Ghanaian troops serving with the UN in Southern Sudan and DR Congo.

The CDS also added that plans are underway to establish military units in all the ten regions in the country.

He hinted at plants to recruit a total number of 2000 persons into the Armed Forces in 2015 and 2016.
