Gospel musician Evang. Akwasi Nyarko has attributed the dying of Ghanaian gospel music industry to piracy. He said gospel musicians invest a lot to produce their album so in retrospect, they expect people to buy the album and not to use any illegal means to get access to it.

The evangelist cum musician said he once damaged someone?s phone because of piracy when he heard the person playing his song ?Mafa No Abo Mebo?on it.

?I heard a guy playing my song on his phone sometime ago when I was walking through town. I collected the phone and smashed it on the ground. This case even ended at the police station,? he acknowledged.

The gospel musician further added that the internet has become a useful tool in promoting brands these days so he has also decided to use the medium for such purpose.

?I?ve realized the internet is helping these days because almost everybody is on his phone searching for something there. I wonder if someone will even see my name when he searches for me there, he told Dave Hammer on Hello 101.5 FM in Kumasi.

?I?ve also decided to use that medium to promote my music since it?s a worldwide tool and can reach larger number of people but I hope it doesn?t make the piracy worst,? he added.

Evang. Akwasi Nyarko is ready to release his new album ?Di Masem Ma Me? next month.
