Ghana Studies Innovation Hub for Climate Technology Entrepreneurs

A World Bank-supported workshop aiming to accelerate clean technology innovation and entrepreneurship in Ghana, will be held in Accra ?on?wednesday, September 11, 2013. the workshop?will bring together more than 100 stakeholders to study the establishment of a Climate Innovation Center (CIC) in Ghana.

The workshop will convene experts to recommend how the Center could expand the reach of key climate technologies, such as green buildings, solar and other renewable energies, climate smart agribusiness, and waste and water management.

Innovation in new technologies will be essential to reduce the long-term cost of climate change and to support competitiveness in Ghana.??infoDev, a global innovation program of the World Bank Group, is designing and launching a network of CICs around the world to accelerate the innovation of locally relevant climate technologies.

The first CIC was opened in Kenya in September 2012, and new centers will soon be established in Ethiopia, Vietnam and the Caribbean region. Based on local demand, a climate innovation hub in Ghana is now also being considered.

The Accra event on Wednesday, September 11 is open to the media. It has been organized by the World Bank s infoDev program in collaboration with the Ghanaian Ministry of Environment Science Technology and Innovation (MESTI) and the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MOTI), and supported by the Government of Denmark.
