The member of? parliament? for Saboba Constituency, Hon? Bukari Joseph Nikpe has strongly made a case for Ghana as the country currently consider the advantages and disadvantages in signing onto the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA).

According to him, Ghana stands to benefit positively if it completes the negotiations of the EPA. The MP was speaking to journalists on Thursday on the sidelines of an on-going Seminar in Accra.

He is hopeful the initiative would receive the support of the ECOWAS Parliament.

The ECOWAS parliamentarian lamented the low volume of trade amongst countries in the sub-region and promised to push for a new drive that will trigger aggressive intra-regional trade.

According to him, more economic opportunities exist in trade between Europe and other countries in the sub-region.

He said, rather than think of the negative effects of liberalizing trade amongst the countries of West Africa, aggressive intra-regional trade should be seen by ECOWAS nations as a tool that will fast-track the region?s economic development.

Turning his attention to some other issues affecting the region, the law maker expressed optimism that, with the help of both the ECOWAS Parliament and leaders from the region, the prevailing challenges undermining the growth of various member-states will be addressed.
