One of Africa?s global financial services organisations, Sanlam Group, says it considers Ghana as in important market for its operations and looks forward to deepening its footprints in the country.

The Sanlam Group, the second largest shareholder of Enterprise Life, said in spite of the volatility in the economy, Ghana remained a good destination for doing business so it would continue to support its local partner, Enterprise Life, to stretch its lead in the local insurance and asset management industry.

The Chief Executive Officer in charge of Emerging Markets of the South Africa-based Sanlam, Mr Heine Werth, told the Daily Graphic during a day?s working visit to Ghana that the group was impressed with Enterprise Life?s performance within the group.

The prize

Enterprise Life emerged the best company within the group with the highest value of new business. It contributed 22 per cent to the value of the group?s new business, beating all sister operations in the 12 African countries where the Sanlam Group operates. Its emerging market region includes operations in India and Malaysia.

Mr Heine and his colleague were in the country to also show appreciation for the sterling performance put up by Enterprise Life by presenting it with a plaque and cash prize to motivate staff, as well as assure them of their support in future.

The chief executive said Enterprise Life had always been the best-performing company within the group, and last year it emerged the ultimate in bringing in the highest new businesses in value across the group?s insurance operations.

?Last year was a good year in all our operations. It was the year that our market capitalisation as a group exceeded $10 billion and shows the confidence in the group,? Mr Werth said.

Ghana, he said, had also carved a niche for itself and ?everywhere you go everybody is talking about Ghana and wants to be part of the success story and that?s why we are proud of Enterprise for establishing itself as a leader in the industry here,? Mr Werth said.

He touted Enterprise Life as its flagship business in Africa. In the last few years, the business has been growing exponentially and exceeded everyone?s expectation.

Executive Director on Enterprise

Enterprise Life is currently rated the third most prestigious company in the Ghana Club 100. It also ranks as the leader in the financial services sector (insurance category), maintaining its position as the highest ranked insurance company in the country.

The life assurance company made its debut into the prestigious Club 100 echelon in 2009, entering as the 16th most prestigious company and the highest ranked life insurance company in the Club.

Commenting on the performance, the Executive Director of Enterprise Life, Mr C. C. Bruce Jnr, told the Daily Graphic that the company was able to achieve the feat due to a strong operating model and a strong sales and back office team to support its operations.

?Last year was a very good year for us. We have a strong business model which helps us to drive insurance business,? Mr Bruce said, adding that life insurance was important to the economy and the social system.

The executive director of Enterprise said the company would continue to improve its product offering on the market and service quality, using information technology and added, ?in the coming year, Enterprise Life will stand up from the year.?
