Ghana At Crossroad

Set aside for the moment the Sulley Muntari classical slaps and the death of Castro De Destroyer and focus instead on what is happening in the country. In fact, put behind you the sex exploits of ministers who went to Brazil to chill and set your eyes on how John Mahama is managing the affairs of this country of 24 million souls.

It has been nearly six years since the NDC held the reins of power but sadly, this dear country of ours is gradually becoming the battleground of contending dooms, spousal murder, contract killing, prostitution, armed robbery, gay marriages, lesbianism, fatal road accidents, hard drug abuse, stinking corruption, demonstration, wanton thievery of state money,  acquisition of illegal wealth, deliberate market inferno,  increase in the numbers of Mercenaries of Eros, nudism, cash and carry health delivery  among many social vices.

We are sitting on a time bomb and yet we pretend as if nothing is happing.  It happened like this during the days of Patriarch Abraham until the Almighty God stretched His mighty hands and destroyed the two cities.

If you should ask what can be done to stem the tide, you should as well ask; why do we elect a president to lead a nation? The truth is that our President, his ministers and handlers are beating about the bush.

As for the President, he can only talk and give juicy promises but when it comes to delivering his juicy promises, the man is always found wanting.

It is true that governments that have come and gone also faced similar problems but it is also the gospel truth that such governments did some things in one way or the other to solve the problems. In the case of the John Mahama-led administration all the above mentioned contending dooms increase day by day without anything being done at all.

Take the issue of strikes and demonstrations for example. Apart from our security men and women and farmers, all sectors have gone on strike. Even in the case of our security services, prison warders demonstrated and burnt tyres at Kumasi when they were not added to the beneficiaries of the Single Spine Salary Structure.

The multi-million Ghana Cedi question one is tempted to ask is:  why should the government sit down for workers to go on strike or demonstrate before what is due to them is paid?  For example, Kwasi Nyantakyi, the FA boss, came back from Brazil to tell us that the trouble they encountered at Brazil was as a result of the appearance fee which came late.

So until the players mutinied, the money would not have been sent on a chartered plane to the boys?  Such explanations make some of us think our leaders have lost their heads. Anyway, should it take the intervention of a whole executive president of a nation in such a case? Tweaaa!

Today in John Mahama?s Ghana, the National Health Insurance Scheme which was introduced by the Kufuor administration is dying.  Mission hospitals and other service providers have refused to recognise card-bearing members of the scheme. Those who don?t have money to attend hospitals are dying on daily basis while the President and his ministers sit in Accra enjoying the good things of life.

After all, when they and their family members are sick they can afford to buy plane tickets and fly outside the country for medical treatment.  The sad aspect of the case is that, because people do not have money to attend hospitals, they turn to quack herbal drug dealers who worsen their plight.

In this country we never heard of anything called contract killings until the late Professor Mills coined the phrase.  He said this when Mr. Rojo Frimpong of the Ghana Commercial Bank was murdered by unknown assailants.

He promised then that if voted into power, the issue of contract killings would be a thing of the past.  I remember seeing the then running-mate, Mr. John Dramani Mahama standing by candidate Mills and clapping unceasingly when the man made the statement. What are we witnessing today under the NDC?

Gay marriage and lesbianism as well as prostitution are what the Lord God of Host hates most. That was why He burnt down Sodom and Gomorrah.  These social vices are being practiced openly but it seems we have closed our eyes as if God, the all knowing is not watching.

No wonder even though we are in the rainy season with floods taking over our cities, the Volta is drying up and people do not get water to drink.  Sometimes I pity those who organise the National Thanksgiving and Prayer Service.

You see, God is so benevolent that he easily forgives sinners if only they repent and ask for forgiveness. In the case of Ghana, no amount of prayers will touch the heart of God because the people have refused to change their ways.

Even as men and women of God were praying and giving thanks at the Holy Spirit Cathedral, all the above mentioned vices were going on and corruption in government continue to hit the sky.  And you expect the Omniscient God of Isaac to listen to your prayers? Lai Lai!

As for thievery of state money, it has become a vogue in the John Mahama administration.  The poor worker sees a government official who was a man of straw a few years ago and now a man of substance.

That is why anytime the leadership of workers unions ask them to demonstrate, they do not hesitate to hit the streets. The other day when the late Mills visited the offices of CEPS he told them that if a worker was able to build a house in a matter of three years then he smelt something fishy.

Today John Mahama?s government functionaries are building mansions of architectural wonder wherever they find a space. I know a District Chief Executive who was living in penury but when he was appointed as a DCE in John Mahama?s government he was able to built four mansions in three cities in this country within three years in office.

This school dropout does not hesitate to tell people that so long as Lordina Mahama lives, no Jupiter can sack him even when he misbehaves. Anytime people talk of perception when the issue of corruption is mentioned, I always refuse to accept that it is a perception. The thing is CORRUPTION, period!!!

And did I hear that Mr. Joseph Yamin has been appointed by John Mahama as the Ashanti Deputy Regional Minister?  God save our homeland Ghana!  This was the boy who exposed Ghana to international ridicule in Brazil when he told the whole world that the President had loaded a chartered jet with three million God-damn US Dollars to pay the Black Stars.

When the news broke out, even radio stations in war-torn Somalia, where Al Shabbab terrorists hold the country at ransom ridiculed Ghanaians. There was this broadcaster with the BBC who referred to the issue as ?African folly.?

What have the people of Ashanti Region done to deserve such an insult? So in the Ashanti Region Mr. Mahama cannot find any NDC member who is qualified to handle that position instead of the boy who disgraced Ghanaians? Habba, Mahama!

Afriyie Ankrah reassigned to the presidency? What is he too going to do there? Drink Brazilian coconut with straw? In fact, Mr. John Mahama is cheapening the presidency!

Eh! Me and my Cigar.  I am going for Don Candido produced by Dunhill with imported tobacco from the Dominican Republic. Unlike Havana, this one is very full-bodied with considerable ?ligero? in the blend.  It is the best cigar money can buy. Well, excuse me while I pollute the air once again, after all, life is too short!!!
