GCB, Others Support Farmers

The Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB) and seven other companies have presented cheques and assorted items to the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA) in support of the 28th National Farmers? Day celebration.

The National Farmers? Day celebration, which is held on the first Friday of December each year, has been slated for November 2 as a result of the impending general elections.

It would he held at Abokobi in the Ga East Municipality of the Greater Accra region on the theme  ?strengthening farmer based organization for market place bargaining power.?

Samuel Sarpong, Chief Transformation Officer of the Ghana Commercial Bank, presented a cheque for GH?15,000 to Nii Amasah Namoale, Deputy Minister of Agriculture.

Metropolitan Insurance Company also presented an insurance cover for the house of the National Best Farmer and its content while Action Motors presented a cheque of GH?1,000.

The Ghana Chamber of Mines handed over a cheque for GH?5,000 while the Cocoa Inputs Company Limited donated five pieces of rice cooker and gas stove, eight pieces of table top refrigerator and 100 pieces of buckets worth GH? 6000.

Kasapreko Limited also donated 30 cartons of assorted brands of the company and a cheque for GH?10,000 while Shyams Ghana Limited presented 50 bags of chicken feed worth GH?7,600 and a cheque for GH?2,500.

Olam Ghana donated GH? 6,000 worth of cocoa, cotton and cashew for the best farmers in these crops as well as a cheque for GH?2,000.

After receiving the donations on behalf of the Farmers? Day Planning Committee, Nii Amasah Namoale, Deputy Minister of Agriculture, commended the companies for supporting the gallant farmers and contributing towards the improvement of the lives of the farmers.

He announced that the deadline for receiving items had been slated for October 19 to enable the committee properly gather all the items.
