A South African court on Friday found four men guilty of trying to kill a Rwandan general, a former ally of Rwandan President Paul Kagame, in 2010, the broadcaster eNCA reported.

Faustin Nyamwasa, who moved to South Africa after falling out with Kagame, was shot at outside his Johannesburg home a few months after arriving in the country. He was wounded, but survived.

The six accused were Rwandans and Tanzanians. The four who were found guilty will be handed their sentences in September. Two were acquitted.

Nyanwasa accuses Kagame’s regime of having hired the men to kill him, a charge Rwanda denies.

The Rwandan government has been accused of pursuing government critics in exile. Former Rwandan intelligence chief Patrick Karegeya was killed in a South African hotel in 2013 in a case that is still under investigation. In 2011, Britain raised concerns over threats against the lives of two Rwandan opposition exiles. Kigali denies involvement.
