FIFA mourns the sudden death of Mohammed Al Khlaiwi .

Saudi Arabia‘s football community is mourning the death of one of its most prominent names, 2109627_FULL-LNDMohammed Al Khlaiwi?who died on Thursday 13 June from heart failure at the age of 42.

The defender spent the majority of his career playing for Al-Ittihad and won 142 caps for his country between 1990 and 2001. Al Khlaiwi played in two FIFA World Cups? (1994, 1998), four FIFA Confederations Cups (1992, 1995, 1997, 1999) and one Olympic Football Tournament (1996).

“I was very sad to hear of the passing of former Saudi Arabia international Mohammed Al Khlaiwi,? said FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter. ?On behalf of FIFA and the international football community, I wish to extend our deepest condolences to the Saudi Arabian football community and, most importantly, to the family, friends and loved ones of Mohammed Al Khlaiwi.

?We hope that in some way, our words of support may help bring a little bit of peace and solace in this time of sadness.?
