The Federal Ministry of Information plans to float a national information portal for use by members of the public, the Minister of Information, Mr Labaran Maku, said on Friday.

Maku dropped the hint when a coalition of civil society organisations under the auspices of the National Information Management Stakeholders paid him a courtesy visit in Abuja.

He said the platform, when concluded, would serve the needs of Nigerians and other interested parties both at home and in the Diaspora.

Maku said the ministry had concluded arrangements with the relevant stakeholders for the launch of the national information platform. He said: “We have virtually finished the design of the portal and we
should be floating it anytime in this quarter.

“We are currently working with the Ministry of Communications Technology to ensure that the infrastructure required for the establishment of this one-stop platform is launched.”

The minister said the Federal Government was aware of the need for an integrated system for information management for the actualisation of the transformation agenda, adding that the task of transforming the entire society did not rest on government alone, adding that the effort of all Nigerians was required.
