Fake Medicine Importer Busted

?The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), with the assistance of the security agencies has caused the arrest of a 52 year old woman by name Rita Fordjour, a native of Koforidua, in the Eastern Region, for allegedly importing fake medicine from China, Trex Orix Forte, multivitamin syrup originally produced by Kama Pharmaceuticals.

Rita Fordjour was arrested at Haatso, a suburb of Accra with over 12,000 bottles of the fake Tres Orix Forte.

Though the fake Trex Orix, originated from China, it bears the manufacturer?s address as Kama Pharmaceuticals, Ghana and all other features as the original Trex Orix.

The general public is however informed that the fake Trex Orix has a light brown colour with a pungent smell. However, the original Tres Orix, manufactured by Kama Pharmaceuticals is pink in colour with a sweet smell.

Furthermore, the public is cautioned against the patronage of the fake Tres Orix Forte since it contains unknown chemicals which can be harmful to the liver, the kidneys and other organs or lead to the development of other complications.

During a search at Rita Fordjour?s residence in Koforidua, receipts and other documents found revealed that she has allegedly been importing fake versions of medicines such as Vermox, Zentel, Panadol, Anti-Tetanus and other medicines from China.

The accused indicated during interrogation that the products were supplied to her by a Nigerian. However, some of the cartons of the fake product that were seized from her bear her name (Rita Fordjour).

The accused, Rita Fordjour, who is currently on bail, is assisting the Police in their investigations.
