Fake Drug Worth N4.5 m Floods Nigeria’s Market

The Nasarawa State Command of NAFDAC on Wednesday seized fake and expired drugs worth N4.5 million in three local government areas of the state.

The Coordinator of NAFDAC in the state, Iluyomade Martins, made the disclosure in an interview in Lafia.

Martins said that the drugs were seized in Karu, Lafia and Akwanga Local Government Areas, adding that similar exercises would be conducted in other Local Government Areas in the state.

“We will make sure that they comply with the law to enable people get the right food, drugs and packaged water.?

He called on the public to always use GSM scratch cards on drugs to confirm their originality.

Martins said that by year end, NAFDAC would ensure that drugs used in Nigeria were computerised and monitored to checkmate of fake drugs.

He warned operators of supermarkets in the state to be on guard as the proliferation of fake goods was on the increase.

The NADAC official said that drugs such as Fulcin, Gentamycin 280 and many others were banned, advising pharmacists to watch out.

“Any drug, no matter where it is coming from, whether UK, Pakistan or anywhere, so long that it is not registered by NAFDAC, that drug is fake.?
