The Proprietor of Kiddie Star Academy at Agona Nyakrom, Ms. Dorothy Osei Acheampong has appealed to the government to extend the School Feeding Programme to private schools, especially those in the rural areas to help enroll more children in school so as to achieve the Education for All Concept by the Year 2020 that the country is clamoring for.
wpid-School-Feeding.jpgSpeaking to Spyghana on the level of basic education, particularly in the rural areas, Ms. Osei Acheampong feeding before school remains a major problem to most parents in the rural areas, and is also a major concern to private schools in the rural areas where there are no schools.
She hinted that the situation makes most parents feel reluctant sending their children to school.
She also appealed for the supply of learning materials such as exercise books, pens and pencils as done for children in the public schools.
Citing her school as an example, she disclosed that she had no option that to run the school for free for one year because parents of the children in the area had no money to send their children to school.
Started with 3 children, she said the school now has a population of 70 children because of the kind of education it offers, but noted that about 15 of these children are offered free tuition and feeding because of the financial background of their parents.
She further hinted that currently, her school is offering free tuition and feeding to about fifteen children because of the financial background of their parents.
She said more children, especially those in the rural areas where there are no public schools and where children have to walk long distances would be enrolled in school if the School Feeding Programme is introduced in private schools operating in these areas to augment the government efforts of providing quality and accessible education to every Ghanaian child.
