The proprietor of Arthmens Academy at Agona Swedru in the Central Region, Mr. Arthur Mensah has appealed to the government to extend the School Feeding Programmes for children in public basic schools to private schools as well.

Professor Jane Naana Opoku-AgyemangMr. Arthur Mensah who made the appeal in an interview with The Moment contended that over half of the country?s children in school are in private schools, and most of these children are from deprived homes and therefore find it difficult to buy food to eat during break time.

He disclosed that majority of these children are attending school on scholarship awarded by their respective schools because of their brilliance in academics.

He said parents of such children also find it very difficult in purchasing even school uniforms and exercise and text books for the children, and has therefore appealed to the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service to supply private schools with teaching and learning materials to support these children.

He mentioned rural communities as areas where this situation is common and blamed it on sinle parenthood either as a result of broken marriages or death.

He later revealed that five of such children are benefitting under scholarship scheme in his school.
