The Ambassador and Head of European Union Delegation to Ghana, H.E Claude Maerten, says the European Union (EU) will continue to collaborate with Ghana in the area of energy to ensure that the country?s energy sector goals are achieved.

According to him, the EU Delegation will ensure that its support for the Ghana in achieving the objectives of the Sustainable Energy for All (SE4ALL) initiative is enhanced for the country?s economic growth.

Ambassador Maerten said this when he called on the Minister for Energy and Petroleum, Hon. Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah on Friday November 22, 2013 at his office in Accra.

He said the main focus of their support will include the provision of energy for agricultural purposes.

Touching on the oil and gas sector, and the recently passed local content legislative instrument (LI), Ambassador Maerten was hopeful that there will be much collaboration between the oil companies and government on the implementation of the law.

Hon. Buah, for his part, thanked the EU Ambassador for his visit and the increasing collaboration between the EU and Ghana in the area of energy.

He mentioned the renewed interest in the renewable energy sector, praising the role of the EU in the promulgation of the Renewable Energy Act which has, he added, elicited much attention from the private sector.

The Minister assured him of the Ministry?s readiness to support the oil companies in the implementation of the LI, adding that the law will be implemented to ensure a win-win situation for all stakeholders.
