Ethiopian Airlines Acquires The Biggest Boeing Aircraft
Ethiopian Airlines has received a Boeing 777-300ER jet, the first and biggest of its kind for the African carrier.
In a statement, Boeing confirmed that it gave the jet to GE Capital Aviation Services to be leased to Ethiopian Airlines.
The 777-300ER is now the largest aircraft in the Ethiopian flag-carrier’s fleet.
“The introduction of the B777-300 ER into our fleet is a major milestone, as it will be our biggest aircraft with a 400 seat capacity,” Mesfin Tassew, Chief Operation Officer of Ethiopian Airlines said after taking delivery of the aircraft.
According to Tassew, the aircraft which will seat nearly 400 passengers in a two-class configuration, will be deployed on long haul non-stop routes to the US and China.
The carrier said it plans to add three new 777-300ERs to its fleet in the near future.
The 777-300ER can fly up to 7,825 nautical miles (14,490 kilometers) and is equipped with GE90-115B engines, the world’s most powerful commercial jet engine.
