Erratic Power Cuts Puts Ghana Businesses In Brink Of Collapse

People in the Informal sector businesses in Ghana who depend solely on electricity are expressing worry over the power outages which they say, is?crippling their businesses and livelihoods.

It has been established that people who don’t have generators are in the dark for 12 hours or more every other day.

Indeed, the development which has hit the country for the past two years, raised serious concerns as people and businesses? are worried about the situation and uncertain when it is going to end.

A tour to certain part of the Capital City of Accra has revealed that the effect of the load shedding on businesses has been alarming.

Some people in the sector said they experience three days outage and enjoy only 12 hours of power, and said the situation is gradually taking them out of business

Also, the load shedding exercise had been extended to industrial enclaves which majority of business owners said is having adverse effect on industries.

Ghana is currently experiencing a power deficit as a result of the shutdown of some units at the hydro and thermal stations across the country. The VRA has warned that the situation could get worse before it gets better.
