Former CHRAJ Boss, Justice Emile Short has called on government to better salaries of public sector workers in order to stop provision of accommodation and other social services to government officials and workers in the public sector.

Speaking on Accra-based citi Fm?s eyewitness news, Justice Emil Short said cutting the provision of accommodation and social services for workers in the public sector is long overdue.

This call comes in the wake of reports of the current CHRAJ boss?s blowing of state money on hotel bills because her accommodation has not been catered for by the state.

According to the Justice, if Ghana Government cuts provision of various services to public sector workers and officials by paying workers good salaries, it will not only save the country some funds and resources but will also make public officials plan their lives and make judicious use of their resources.

?Cutting the provision of accommodation and other services to public officials is long overdue. The government needs to pay these officials well so that they can provide these services from their own coffers. This will not only save the government some funds but will also save the government some resources because some people waste resources just because they are not been charged. This will also make people in the public sector plan their lives.?

He mentioned that, elsewhere in Europe, public officials are not provided with these opportunities public officials in Ghana enjoy. Officials are paid well and are allowed to foot all their bills.

He called on the government to replicate such models in the government structure to help rid the system of wasting resources.
