Artistes from the National Drama Company, School of Performing Arts, National Dance Company, Noyam African Dance Institute and the National Symphony Orchestra last week mesmerised a crowd with a magnetic performance of ?Song of the Pharaoh?.

Performing at the Social Science Auditorium (CCB), Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (Kumasi), the group enchanted the audience with the musical drama written and directed by Dr Mohammed Ben Abdallah.

The piece, which tells the story of Pharaoh Akhnaten, revolves around love, incest, betrayal and the political / religious transformation of ancient Egypt. It transfers the audience in a subtle manner to the court of ancient Egypt through a communicative set and costumes.

Indeed, music from the National Symphony Orchestra and dances from the National Dance Company / Noyam pepper the story of the rise and fall of Pharaoh Akhnaten, who is said to have ruled Egypt during a period of economic and artistic growth.

The production, which was organised by the National Theatre of Ghana in collaboration with resident groups of the theatre, Noyam and the School of Performing Arts, was sponsored by the Embassy of the United States in Accra.
